    What is Divorce Financial Mediation?

You and your spouse will meet with an experienced divorce financial mediator who will serve as a neutral third party to help you resolve property division, support and other financial related issues. The goal is to come to an agreement that can be incorporated into your final settlement agreement.

You will make your decisions in a private setting. Unlike a judicial officer, the mediator does not make decisions for you. Instead, he or she will help you explore alternatives. The aim is for you and your spouse to reach solutions tailored to the specific needs and objectives of you and your family.

We recommend that each party hire a consulting attorney to advise you during the process, review the preliminary agreement and assist with preparation and filing of all legal documents. You may also choose to have your attorney accompany you to your mediation sessions. Your consulting attorney will make sure you do not sacrifice too much in terms of results and ensure that you fully understand all of the legal implications of your final Settlement.

Divorce financial mediation can not only be an effective model for couples who are working cooperatively, but can also benefit those who are engaged in a more contentious process. If both parties agree, they can work on one or more unresolved financial issues with a neutral divorce financial specialist. Having a neutral advisor who understands the financial issues can recommend alternative options that take into consideration the needs of both parties.

Mediation provides an efficient and cost-effective process for working on your own solutions in a private setting rather than going to court.

    How the Process Works

Financial Solutions for Divorce follows a 7-step process to help you achieve a fair and equitable settlement.

    1. Meet. During our initial meeting, we discuss your immediate and long-term financial needs, concern, and objectives.
    2. Discover. We provide an efficient process to gather and record your financial information. We identify your assets, debts, income, and expenses along with potential tax, insurance, retirement, and other financial issues.
    3. Analyze. We provide personalized schedules of all relevant information; prepare long-term cash flow, net worth, and alternative property division projections; and examine the after-tax effect and long-term consequences of all proposed settlements.
    4. Review. We meet with you to evaluate reports and answer questions in language you can understand.
    5. Recommend. We provide information and advice to help you make prudent, workable decisions.
    6. Report. We consult with you, your attorneys, and other advisors, as needed, and prepare reports that document your settlement agreement.
    7. Follow-up. We monitor the transfer of assets to insure that your property division is consistent with you settlement agreement.
